Antique-Style Blue & White Phoenix Temple Jar
Decorative Chinese blue and white porcelain ginger jar, featuring a traditional rounded form with a domed, detachable lid. The body is richly decorated with a hand-painted flying phoenix, its elaborate plumage rendered in deep cobalt blue against a white porcelain ground and surrounded by delicate floral and foliate motifs.
The decoration is composed in dense, highly ornamental patterns, combining the phoenix with scrolling foliage and stylized botanical elements. A continuous decorative band runs around the lower section of the jar, creating a strong visual base and complementing the intricate decoration across the body.
The domed lid continues the blue and white decoration and is topped by a small foo dog finial, while four sculpted foo dog heads are applied around the shoulder of the vessel. These three-dimensional elements provide a striking contrast to the finely painted surface, adding depth and a distinctive sculptural quality to the piece.
The combination of cobalt-blue painting, botanical ornamentation, the symbolic flying phoenix and sculpted foo dog details reflects the rich decorative tradition of Chinese porcelain. The piece combines an elegant silhouette with an elaborate surface treatment, making it equally suitable as a functional covered vessel or as a decorative collectible.
