Ancient Ceramic Plate. Pasquale Rubati's manufacture 18th-century Italian Maiolica

Decorative 18th-century Italian maiolica plate in Chinoiserie style, featuring a richly painted Oriental-inspired landscape in cobalt blue, iron red, soft pink and brown. The composition depicts pagodas, stylized trees, rocky mountains, waterfalls and small figures, arranged around a central architectural scene.

The plate is distinguished by its irregular mistilinear rim, outlined in brown, and by the expressive, graphic quality of the hand-painted decoration. The imagery reflects the eighteenth-century European fascination with Chinese and Japanese porcelain, reinterpreted through the Italian maiolica tradition.

The decoration recalls wares produced by important Milanese ceramic manufactures such as Felice Clerici and Pasquale Rubati. An attribution to either manufacture would require confirmation through examination of the reverse, markings and provenance.
